After the 2-0 defeat at the hands of Sporting CP which spelled the end of their UEFA Women’s Champions League campaign, Eintracht Women will be playing off for third place on Saturday against Minsk in the UEFA mini-tournament (kick-off at 14:00 CEST at the Stadion Kópavogsvöllur in Iceland).
Their opponents were also knocked out in the first stage of qualifying with a 6-1 defeat to Breidablik in the semi-final, and Niko Arnautis’ team will be going all out to inflict another defeat on them.
“Don’t want to fly home feeling like that”
“We don’t want to lose another match,” said Laura Freigang as she looked ahead to the third-place play-off. “I’m glad that we’ve got another game as you don’t want to fly home feeling like that. We want to win the match and we need the points for our coefficient for next year, which is important. After that, we’ll be putting all our efforts into the competitions that we’re still in – we need to perform well.”
