Leaders at the halfway mark

Eintracht Women rounded off the first half of the campaign with a 3-0 home win over Leipzig, which lifted them top of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga.

Early lead

Niko Arnautis’s side made the perfect start to the contest, taking the lead in just the seventh minute when Nicole Anyomi capitalised on a mistake in the Leipzig defence.

The supporters at the Stadion am Brentanobad were treated to a one-sided affair as Eintracht kept the ball well and applied heavy pressure on their opponents, while Leipzig struggled to make it out of their own half and were fortunate to go into half-time only 1-0 down.

Pawollek makes it two

Lara Prasnikar missed the chance to double the Eagles’ lead in a one-on-one with the Leipzig keeper seven minutes into the second half, before spurning another good opportunity just 120 seconds later.

But Eintracht captain Tanja Pawollek made amends in the 63rd minute when she made it 2-0 from Anyomi’s pass, before Carlotta Wamser completed the scoring two minutes from time.

With eight wins, two draws and only one defeat so far, the Eagles end the first half of the campaign top of the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga – and deservedly so.

Nicole Anyomi, scorer of Eintracht’s opening goal: “It’s very special to be top of the table. We were told as a team that it’s the first time in 11 years. It’s a wonderful moment and we can be pleased, but it’s still a long season and we need to keep this up. We’re already playing again on Friday and we want to pick up points. The dance after my goal was for Barbara Dunst - she normally does it in the changing room.”
