Anna Aehling, 23, has signed a one-year contract extension at Eintracht Frankfurt, committing her future to the club until 30 June 2025.
The defender has struggled with injury problems since joining Eintracht in January 2022 but has still managed 25 competitive appearances for the club, including 15 in the Bundesliga, two in the Champions League, two in the DFB Cup and six in Women’s Bundesliga 2.
“I want to put myself in contention and push on”
“I’m very pleased about this contract extension,” said Aehling. “I’m incredibly happy here. The team, the club, the city – it’s the overall package that makes working here so much fun. I look forward to coming to training every day. It shows what a special team spirit we have here. Our goals are clear: we want to get back into the Champions League and trouble Wolfsburg and Bayern Munich in the future. For me personally, it’s very important to stay fit but we’re on the right track in that regard. I want to earn more and more playing time now, put myself in contention and push on.”
Niko Arnautis, Eintracht Frankfurt Women sporting director and head coach, added: “I’m delighted that Anna wants to continue her journey with us. Unfortunately, she’s been repeatedly set back by injuries and it hasn’t been an easy time for her. We’ve always stood by her, as shown by her contract extension. Anna is a real team player and a great footballer. She’s very versatile as a centre-back and full-back, has good athletic ability, the aerial prowess and strength in the tackle that we need, and she’s also a great asset to the team as a character. We’re convinced that she can – and will – play an even more important role for our team on the pitch in the coming year.”
