Having been named the country’s best overseas player at the ‘Bruno’ Gala earlier this year, Eintracht Frankfurt’s Barbara Dunst has now been crowned Austrian Women’s Footballer of the Year by the Austria Press Agency. The 27-year-old midfielder won the award, which has been running since 2018, just 12 months ago.
The 87-time Austria international, who ruptured her cruciate ligament in the return leg of the EURO qualification play-off against Poland in early December, has made 147 competitive appearances for Eintracht, underlining her status as a key player at both club and international level.

“It gives me great strength”
“Being named Austrian Women’s Footballer of the Year again gives me an extra motivational boost, which means a great deal to me,” Dunst said about her latest accolade. “It gives me great strength and it’s a wonderful show of appreciation. I’ll do all I can in my recovery to come back stronger from my cruciate ligament injury and be fighting fit again in 2025.”
Head coach Niko Arnautis offered his congratulations: “It speaks volumes that Baba has been named Footballer of the Year for the second year in a row – and deservedly so, despite strong competition. I’m incredibly happy for her. It’s important that she gets back on her feet again – we’re all keeping our fingers crossed for her.”
