The two-week international break is over and it’s back to the bread and butter of the league. The final seven matchdays of the 2024/25 season begin in the Google Pixel Women’s Bundesliga this weekend. After the defeat at Wolfsburg, second-placed Eintracht are looking to get back to winning ways and at least maintain their position in the table.
To do that, they’ll need to beat ninth-placed SGS Essen at 18:30 CET at the Stadion am Brentanobad.
“Carry out our game”
At his pre-match press conference, head coach Niko Arnautis said: “We’ve prepared the team well for the opponents and need to carry out our game with and without the ball against Essen in our own stadium. When we manage to deliver our performance on the pitch, we’re very strong at home and obviously we absolutely want to win the match.”
Team news
Essen have been hit by the news that goalkeeper Sophia Winkler, who will move to Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer, suffered a serious knee injury while away with the German national team and will miss the rest of this campaign.
For Frankfurt, Arnautis can again call on Sophie Nachtigall, Géraldine Reuteler and Sophia Kleinherne following their recent knocks. It remains to be seen whether Sara Doorsoun and Anna Aehling will be fit enough for Friday, though.
