Winger Hayley Raso is joining Eintracht Frankfurt from Tottenham Hotspur after agreeing a contract until 30 June 2027. The 30-year-old started her footballer career in her native Australia with Canberra United, where she celebrated her first league title in 2012 at the age of 17. After a year with Brisbane Roar, she moved to the Washington Spirit in the American NWSL and then on to the Portland Thorns in 2016. Not only did she claim her next championship in Portland in 2017, but was also voted player of the year by the fans.
Two World Cups, two Olympics
A triple vertebrae fracture sidelined Raso for several months in 2018, but she battled back and played her way into the Australia team for the 2019 World Cup. At club level, her journey then took her to Europe for the first time: after spells at Everton (2020-2021) and Manchester City (2021-2023) in England, she became the first ever Australian to play for Real Madrid (2023-2024) before returning to the Women’s Super League, where she featured in 16 competitive games for Tottenham last season.
The 1.61m-tall attacker has made 99 international appearances for Australia, scoring 22 goals. As well as taking part in the Olympic Games in 2020 and 2024, she was part of the squads for both the 2019 and 2023 World Cups. Her contribution at the 2023 tournament, where the Matildas reached the semi-finals, earned her a nomination for the Ballon d’Or in the same year, in which she finished in 17th place.
“Really looking forward to getting started”
Raso said: “I had very good talks with the management here at Eintracht. I really like the club and the city. The German Bundesliga is one of the top leagues in women’s football and I’m really happy to be here and looking forward to getting started.”
Hayley is a very strong attacking player with a lot of aggression and explosivity in her game.
Head coach Niko Arnautis
Head coach Niko Arnautis added: “Hayley is a very strong attacking player with a lot of aggression and explosivity in her game, both with and without the ball. She can play both centrally and out wide in attack, which gives us more options tactically. Hayley will also be able to pass on a lot to our young players with her international experience. She adds to the very good mix of experience and talent we have in the team now.
