Storming win over Wolfsburg

Eintracht Women produced a stunning performance to claim a deserved 4-0 victory against VfL Wolfsburg at Deutsche Bank Park.

A crowd of 17,800 at Deutsche Bank Park witnessed an awesome display from Eintracht Women, who managed to beat second-placed Wolfsburg 4-0, a scoreline that was justified.

2-0 lead at half-time

Niko Arnautis’ side opened the scoring in the 17th minute through Sjoeke Nüsken. Nicole Amyoni then doubled the lead on the stroke of half-time (44’) with a sensational solo effort.

Sjoeke Nüsken scored the opener for Eintracht Women.

Freigang at the double

As Wolfsburg pushed for a way back into the game in the second period, Eintracht hit them with two counter-attacks, which Laura Freigang finished off perfectly to make it 4-0 in the space of five minutes (61’, 66’) as Eintracht triumphed over the She-Wolves in the Bundesliga for the first time in 10 years. The result also sees Frankfurt tighten their grip on third place and UEFA Women’s Champions League qualification, holding a six-point lead over fourth-placed Hoffenheim with just two matches left of the season.

Nicole Anyomi makes it 2-0.

Head coach Niko Arnautis: “I think we all need to pinch ourselves again. Years ago I said that the perfect game doesn’t exist, but if we’re talking about an almost perfect game then this was it - from the first minute to the last. The girls deserve huge credit. They should enjoy the day and soak up the atmosphere. You could really feel the synergy between the fans and the team. We’ve moved closer to Wolfsburg, compared to where we were 18 months to two years ago. Today was probably our best performance for years. But we’ll stay humble, despite all the euphoria. I’m delighted with the win, but I’ll celebrate it when we’ve achieved our aim. Now we have to focus fully on our match in Potsdam. We need to work hard again for 90 minutes, so that on the way back home we’ll hopefully have secured our ticket for Champions League qualifying.”
