Eintracht Frankfurt Women were beaten in their top-of-the-table clash on Matchday 9 of the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga on Saturday, losing 5-0 at VfL Wolfsburg in their first league defeat of the campaign.
Niko Arnautis’ team fell behind after just five minutes, Jill Roord finding the net with a long-range effort. Wolfsburg continued to dominate proceedings and made it 3-0 before half-time courtesy of quick-fire goals from Roord (42’) and Ewa Pajor (44’).
Eintracht showed little improvement in the second half, with Roord (53’) completing her hat-trick (53’) and Sara Doorsoun scoring an own goal (86’) to round off the scoring. The result sees Eintracht drop from second to third in the table.
Head coach Niko Arnautis: “We didn’t start the game well, while Wolfsburg took the lead with their first opportunity. We actually did quite well after that and got stronger and stronger. When you go into half-time trailing 3-0 and concede a fourth soon after the restart, it’s incredibly difficult to turn the game around. Wolfsburg were very efficient today and took advantage of the chances we gifted them. We have to learn that we can’t afford to show these weaknesses at this level. We have to put the defeat behind us and start another run against Potsdam on Friday.”
