Marthine Østenstad becomes an Eaglein

The Norwegian international joins Eintracht Frankfurt from SK Brann on a three-year contract.

Eintracht Frankfurt have bolstered their defence with the acquisition of Marthine Østenstad. The Norwegian international has signed a contract valid until 30 June 2028.

However, it’s likely to be a few weeks before the 24-year-old joins training in Frankfurt, as the defender is hoping to stay involved in the Women’s European Championship in Switzerland for as long as possible. Østenstad made her debut for Norway on Thursday in her team’s 4-3 win over Iceland, which confirmed them as winners of Group A.

Until the end of last season, Østenstad was playing for Norwegian top-flight side Brann, where she twice won the Toppserien (2021 and 2022) and lifted the cup in 2022. As well as gaining experience in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, she also led the team as captain.

“When I found out about Eintracht’s interest, I was hugely delighted,” said Østenstad. “Following the talks with the management, I had a very good feeling and really wanted to come to Frankfurt. The club has undergone a tremendous development in the last few years and the team have big potential. Eintracht Frankfurt is the perfect club for me. With my strong tackling, aggression and composure on the ball, I want to help the team to compete well in the league.”

“We’re pleased to welcome a player to our defence who already has a lot to offer at the age of 24,” added head coach Niko Arnautis. “She’s already gained European experience at club level with SK Brann in the Champions League. Currently she’s representing her country at the European Championship in Switzerland. We can expect a player who’s very strong in the tackle and in the air, but can also build up play well. On top of that, she’s shown recently as captain at Brann that she’s a real leader. We want to let her take the next steps in Frankfurt and look forward to a great player and character.”
