Eintracht Frankfurt Women ended the first half of the FLYERALARM Women’s Bundesliga season with a 1-0 away defeat to Werder Bremen. Laura Freigang spurned a good opportunity to give the Eagles the lead with 16 minutes on the clock.
Penalty earns dominant Werder victory
The hosts made the brighter start to the second half, with Merle Frohms having to parry Lina Hausicke’s goal-bound header off the line two minutes after the break. The game’s only goal was scored by Michelle Ulbrich, who found the bottom corner from the penalty spot after Rieke Dieckmann had been fouled in the penalty area.
Eintracht begin the second half of the campaign at 13:00 CET on Sunday 19 December, when they travel to SC Sand on Matchday 12 in their final game of 2021.
Head coach Niko Arnautis: “It goes without saying that we’re disappointed. We needed a few minutes to get into the game but were then clearly the dominant side in the first half. Werder waited for the counter the whole game and took their chance with the penalty. It was hard for us to come from behind because Bremen sat very deep, although we still had a few chances to score what would’ve been a deserved equaliser. Ultimately we lacked the cutting edge and efficiency in front of goal.”
