Defeat against promoted side

Niko Arnautis was without both Laura Freigang and Erëleta Memeti due to illness, while Rebecka Blomqvist was sidelined with injury. Despite those absences, Eintracht started well and created two presentable opportunities for Nicole Anyomi, who was first denied by Nürnberg goalkeeper Larissa Rusek (6’), and then missed the target after a chance for Jarne Teulings (8’).

Hosts go in front 

Nürnberg, by way of contrast, made the most of their first opening to take the lead (15’). After the Eagles cleared a free-kick, Nastassja Lein was left unmarked in the penalty area and was able to lift the ball over Lina Altenburg to break the deadlock. 

Fördos stuns Eintracht

The home side’s second goal also arrived out of the blue. A set piece from the left-hand side wasn’t cleared and ran all the way through to Beatrix Fördos, who prodded the ball over the line from close range (32’). 

Chiba reduces the deficit 

Shortly before the interval, Remina Chiba demonstrated superb control to bring down a long ball from Jella Veit and volley it into the left-hand corner to get Eintracht back within touching distance (44’). 

Hit on the break

Eintracht were caught out on the counter early in the second half when Lein got the better of Nadine Riesen and found herself free in front of goal to make it 3-1 (48’). The Eagles’ rearguard was breached once again in the 64^th minute when Nürnberg executed another counter-attack and went 4-1 up through Jacqueline Baumgärtel.

Anyomi scores, Lein replies

Anyomi reduced the deficit to 4-2 with her sixth goal of the season in the 68^th minute after being set up by Chiba. Just 60 seconds later, however, Lein escaped her marker to complete her hat-trick from a cross.

The goal fest continued when Chiba brilliantly chipped the ball over the goalkeeper following a corner to make it 5-3. Nevertheless, Arnautis’s side were unable to come back and suffered a frustrating defeat.
