Pia-Sophie Wolter joins SGE

The 25-year-old midfielder arrives on loan from Bundesliga runners-up VfL Wolfsburg.

Eintracht Frankfurt have added Pia-Sophie Wolter to their women’s first team ahead of the new season. The 25-year-old midfielder arrives on the Main from Bundesliga runners-up VfL Wolfsburg on a one-year loan deal until June 2024.

Wolter received her footballing education at SV Werder Bremen, where she played from 2011 to 2018 and made her Bundesliga debut in August 2015 at the age of 17. In 2018 the winger signed for Wolfsburg, where she made 92 appearances in all competitions – including four goals in 14 UEFA Women’s Champions League games – despite a lengthy injury lay-off because of a cruciate ligament rupture. In a Germany shirt, Wolter played 12 U19 games and eight U20 games before making her first and so far only senior appearance against Republic of Ireland in December 2020.

As soon as I heard that Eintracht were interested, I knew that I wanted to come here.

“We’re very happy that Pia has decided to come to Frankfurt,” said Niko Arnautis, sporting director and head coach of Eintracht Women. “She’s an incredibly hard-working player with great energy and explosiveness, who can pace up and down the wings. Those are attributes that will definitely help us in the new season. Pia gained a lot of experience at Wolfsburg, played at the highest level and acquired a certain maturity, which she can also pass on to our younger players. She’s going to be a big asset to our team with her high motivation and great character.”

Wolter commented: “I’m very happy that I get to be here and I’m grateful for the trust placed in me. As soon as I heard that Eintracht were interested, I knew that I wanted to come here. I want to play regularly again here, which wasn’t the case at Wolfsburg in recent times, and at the same time get back to the level I was at, particularly before my injury. My aim is to play in the Champions League with Eintracht and achieve third place in the league again. I’m very excited about both.”
