Sara Doorsoun is leaving Eintracht Frankfurt after three and a half years at the club. The 33-year-old defender, whose contract was set to run until 30 June 2026, has joined National Women’s Soccer League side Angel City FC with immediate effect.
Doorsoun, who retired from Germany duty in June, joined Frankfurt from VfL Wolfsburg in January 2022. The centre-back immediately established herself as a key first-team player at Eintracht, going on to make 88 competitive appearances and score eight goals. As part of the players’ council, Doorsoun also became a leading figure off the pitch and even shared captaincy duties with Laura Freigang following Tanja Pawollek’s long-term injury. After 15 years and 280 top-flight games, she is leaving the Women’s Bundesliga for the first time in her professional career.
“Incredibly grateful to entire Eintracht family”
“It was incredibly difficult to make this decision and leave a club so close to my heart,” said Doorsoun. “However, the prospect of joining Los Angeles gave me the opportunity a few weeks ago to pursue a dream I’ve been talking about since I was 14 years old. I’m 33 now and I’ll be 34 in November, so I probably wouldn’t have had another chance to do this in my career. The fact that Eintracht didn’t stand in my way, despite my contractual situation and importance to the team on the pitch, was by no means a foregone conclusion and speaks volumes about the camaraderie that has characterised the last three and a half years here. I can say they were the best years of my career.”
Sara spoke very openly with us about what could be her last chance to fulfil her childhood dream of moving to the USA.

Head coach Niko Arnautis added: “In sporting and human terms, Sara’s departure hurts us a lot. Over the past three and a half years, she has helped us enormously on the pitch with her qualities as a player and as a leader, but she was also a key leading figure off the pitch and shouldered a lot of responsibility as one of our captains. We’re losing one of the great figures of German football. Sara spoke very openly with us about what could be her last chance to fulfil her childhood dream of moving to the USA. From a human perspective, we didn’t want to deny her that opportunity. We wish her all the best for her next chapter.”
