Goals aplenty in friendly win

Eintracht Women cruised past second-division side SC Sand, winning their second friendly 8-3 on a day filled with goals.

New recruits Jarne Teulings and Ereleta Memeti were in the starting line-up for the friendly against SC Sand, and both of them ended up writing their names on the scoresheet. Ainhoa Alguacil and Marthine Østenstad were left out, having each suffered a slight knock, while Amanda Ilestedt, Noemi Ivelj, Nadine Riesen, Géraldine Reuteler, Laura Freigang and Elisa Senß are still resting up after their European Championship campaign.

Some 600 fans were expecting to see Eintracht get the better of their second-tier opposition, but a lack of focus in defence saw them 3-2 down at half-time. Six goals after the break turned things very much in Eintracht’s favour, though, as Niko Arnautis’ side cruised to a thoroughly deserved 8-3 away win.

“Good test for us”

“We showed a lot of positive aspects and created plenty of chances, most of which we took,” head coach Arnautis said after the match. “It was a good test for us. We want to ramp things up week by week and we’re going to keep on working on reaching peak fitness by the time the season starts. We’ll also gradually be integrating our EURO players as best we can.”

The next friendly for the team comes on Saturday 9 August in Bad Hersfeld, against Bundesliga rivals Carl Zeiss Jena.
