Verena Hanshaw has become the second Austria international in the Eintracht Frankfurt squad to sign an early two-year contract extension, after Laura Feiersinger committed her future to the club earlier this week. Hanshaw has put pen to paper on a deal through to 30 June 2024.
The 27-year-old joined 1. FFC Frankfurt alongside Feiersinger back in 2018, having moved from their native Austria to German club Herforder SV in 2010. The Vienna-born defender, who was known by her maiden name Aschauer at the time, cut her teeth in the Bundesliga with BV Cloppenburg, SC Freiburg and SC Sand before moving to Frankfurt. Around 70 of Hanshaw’s 160 top-flight appearances have come in Eintracht colours.
She has also established herself as a key player for Austria, winning almost 80 caps for the senior side since 2011. In 2017, Hanshaw was the only Austrian to be named in the UEFA Women’s EURO 2017 Best Eleven after helping her team reach the semi-finals of the tournament.
I’m convinced that we can achieve great things with our team in the coming years.

“I didn’t have to think twice about renewing my contract,” Hanshaw explained. “In sporting terms we’re on the right track. I’m convinced that we can achieve great things with our team in the coming years.”
“It’s great that Verena Hanshaw, another leading figure, will continue to accompany the Bundesliga women’s team on its successful path after signing an early contract extension,” said sporting director Siegfried Dietrich. “As a member of the team committee, her words carry weight and her left foot is a weapon on the pitch.”
